Congratulations to Dr Lili Yang for winning a grant from the National Natural Science Foundation of China!

Dr Lili Yang is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Education, University of Hong Kong and a Management Committee member of CHERA. Dr Yang’s project, entitled “The influence of overseas returnees and locally cultivated talents in enhancing the international reputation and impact of Chinese universities (次人才海外引与本土培中国大学国力提升的作用机制与策研究),” has been granted RMB 300,000 (HKD$330,000) under the NSFC Youth Science Fund 2023 exercise (中国国家自然科学基金青年科学基金). In the coming three years, Dr Yang will conduct research on Chinese conceptualisations of ‘international reputation/impact’ of universities and its relationship with talents. The NSFC is arguably the most prestigious and important funder for basic research in China.

This project is the second large grant Dr Yang received since joining CHERA in 2022. Earlier this year, her project titled “The public good of higher education: A study of Hong Kong” received a grant under the RGC Early Career Scheme (ECS) 2023/24 exercise (HKD 622,796). We look forward to hearing more research findings and outputs from the projects!
