Dr. Denis Simon is Clinical Professor of Global Business and Technology at the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. From 2015-2020, he served as Executive Vice Chancellor of Duke Kunshan University in Jiangsu, China. And from 2020 to 2022, he served as Senior Adviser to the President for China Affairs at Duke University. In 2006, Dr Simon received the China National Friendship Award from then Premier Wen Jiabao in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. He holds an MA in Asian Studies and a PhD in Political Science from UC Berkeley and a BA in Asian Studies from SUNY New Paltz.

Dr Simon will focus on the opportunities and challenges facing the joint venture model. Does it really work? What does it actually mean to do a joint venture university? Can they be successful over time?
