Abstract:
This study combined bibliometric and scholastic analysis to evaluate the academic performance and scholarly impact of rectors at public universities in Indonesia. It assessed 82 rectors out of an initial 93 candidates, using 2,706 data points gathered from various open and verified sources. The analysis revealed male dominance, significant disparities in scientific productivity, and a trend toward academic inbreeding. In citation analysis, natural sciences like Fisheries, Biology, Physics, and Engineering demonstrated greater global impact than those in Accounting, Sociology, and Medicine, emphasizing multidisciplinary integration in addressing global challenges. These findings underscore the need for strategies to enhance leadership diversity, scientific output, and gender equality in Indonesian public universities.
Keywords: Academic performance, rector, bibliometrics, gender, academic inbreeding, citation, state universities, Indonesia.
